Happy New Year!

Exciting things to come in 2009!

Look and listen for new releases from clarinetist Robert Spring and saxophonist Timothy McAllister on the Summit Records label featuring my Duo Sonata in February.

In addition, an Albany Records release from cellist extraordinaire Mathias Wexler featuring Metallicellissimo is due to arrive in the Spring.

Also arriving this month is remeMBering for the Capitol Saxophone Quartet. The new work is a chaconne of sorts in memory of Michael Brecker.

Many more projects in the hopper! Stay tuned for details.

After a long wait, I finally have confirmation that Robert Spring’s exciting new cd Oncoming Traffic will be released in December on Summit Records. In addition, Timothy McAllister’s new Innova Records release Glint is due out on December 1. Both discs contain the definitive recording of my Duo Sonata by both of these virtuoso performers. Despite the fact that they contain the same performance, both discs are well worth purchasing as they have completely different programs. I am thrilled to be in the company of such composers as John Mackey, Roshanne Etezady, and Scott McAllister!

Speaking of great company, I recently received word that PRISM Quartet completed recordings of the 24 one-minute works including my speed metal organum blues composed in 2004 for their 20th anniversary concerts. This set of miniatures, coupled with a new saxophone quartet by Martin Bresnick, is sure to make an exciting disc. Stay tuned for details!

I am also pleased to announce that I will be one of the guest composers at the Penn State Single Reed Summit on October 30-31. The Capitol Quartet will present the world premiere performance of Run.

On October 18 and November 1, works of mine will be featured on WCNY’s program Fresh Ink sponsored by the Society For New Music. This Society-produced hour of new music programming can be heard every Sunday afternoon beginning at 2:00 PM following the Syracuse Symphony broadcasts on Classic FM, WCNY-FM 91.3 Syracuse, WUNY-FM 89.5 Utica and WJNY 90.9 Watertown, or on the web. Check it out!
