listening

This section is devoted to some of my experiences as a listener. I have an ample and growing collection of recordings of various types, genres, and styles to which I devote quite a bit of time simply listening. As a composer whose music is deeply rooted in the past and present (strangely, I have no roots in the future), I find that my composing is greatly influenced by the way I listen to a piece (or a specific performance of a piece) for the first time and the hundredth. As my perceptions change, so will the contents of this page - as long as I remember to update from time to time.

I will begin by offering one page for your perusal. This is a list of my favorite composer as performer recordings that I have heard. These are not limited to composers’ performances of their own works and I do not necessarily consider them to be the best performances of anything (unless I say so in my annotations).

Note that the views expressed in these pages are simply my opinions and nothing more. Please, do NOT take these views as law; rather, feel free to use them as an springboard for further or different listening.

Enjoy these pages and check back for more.
